Warrior • Survivor Are they synonymous to you? I’m curious. I was talking to some other PPD/PPA mommies and I said that I decided “warrior” felt better than “survivor”. It IS a battle I fight every day. Tomorrow she wakes up a preschooler. While it’s so easy to shrug that off as “not a big deal” it soooo is. Tomorrow she embarks on the first of her life experiences without us. For 1138 days, her entire life, she’s been with me. She’s come to work with me, as my amazing sidekick. She has worked from home with me. She has been my constant companion. And shadow. And that will never change. For that I’m eternally grateful. (most of the time!) But tonight as I sit here finishing some labeling, and folding the last of the items for her cubby I realize that this is the first of her firsts outside of our home. And I’m so freaking proud of her!!! I’m excited for her, I loved preschool! I’m proud she’s, grown and matured and I have no doubt that she is so ready for this! I am so grateful to have found what I believe to be the perfect place for Sloane to learn and grow and flourish over the next 3 years. Yet I’d be lying if I didn’t say...... I am crushed that my baby girl is no longer a baby, or even a toddler. She is now a full blown preschooler. I will quietly grieve the fact that this is the beginning of her needing me less and less in the way she has for the past three years. She will ALWAYS need me, and I will always be here for her. But mommy to an infant and baby is just so different. It’s okay mommies. We can be sad our babies are growing up. They’re doing what we want them to, what we have groomed them to, but we still are allowed to grieve. To be sad. To feel. Give yourself a pat on the back for making it to whatever milestone coming your way. This is not easy. Motherhood is not for the weak, the weary or the easily flustered. I remember what it was like the night before each of my nanny kids started their first day. Like it was yesterday. These days are monumental. These days are our milestones too! Our congratulations for getting to this point. So chin up! This is a sign you’re doing your job and you’re doing it well!! So take this is a compliment that you ROCK and try to find the joy in the new beginnings. 💜Archives
