April 13, 2016 Kobe played his last Lakers home game of his career. . . I remember watching and crying. Sobbing in fact. He was a hero. An icon. He was someone that we ALL felt we knew. When you grow up in Los Angeles there are just certain celebrities that transcend all races, ethnicities, cultures and lives. Kobe Bryant was that man. He was 18 years old in 1996 when he became a household name to those of us lifelong Laker fans. . . . . I cried that day in April 2016 because I was pregnant with Sloane and exactly two months later she would be born and my sweet girl would never get to see my hero play. I can’t say I knew he would die young. That would be giving myself way too much credit. But somehow, I knew his time as a hero was coming to a close. That sadly, my one and only child would never get the opportunity to see the amazing Mamba. Number 24. My number. . . . Today, we all lost a hero. We lost a part of our past. We lost a someone who felt like a friend. . . . Today, a wife lost her husband and daughter. And three little girls lost their daddy and sister. The magnitude of that is enormous. My heart is broken for Vanessa who has endured so much and always been strong and loyal. May his memory be a blessing to her and may she be comforted during this dark time. Three and a half years together and I still wait for her parents to come and pick her up. It’s mind blowing to me. I wished for a baby for soooooooo long, and now, she’s a toddler. . I look back at the baby pics and remember every single detail. Smell. Emotion. Sometimes the emotions the picture evokes isnt the emotion I expect. But photos like music, always touch on a deeper place within us. They catapult us back to that time without even realizing it. . I suffer from Post Partum Anxiety (PPA) linked to PPD but not talked about as much. Not properly treated as often. And sometimes....not treated at all. It took almost 3 years for me to get on to the right medications and now oils too, to help me get back to me. Having a baby at almost 41 screwed with my hormones and thus caused a fireball of stuff to come up. I will always be grateful for the pictures. The pictures tell my story. And I see how far I have come and I am proud at the person looking back. For all she has been through. For all she has overcome. I’m not sure when it will but it’s going to be heavy and rough. . . this is the last pile. of the last of the @rags_to_raches that sloane will ever wear. to you they may just look like a pile of tops. but to me they represent so much more. they are the clothes i drooled over and said that “someday my baby will wear...”. AND SHE DID! they were ALL my favorites. these are just the ones she won’t wear anymore because she only wears dresses (wtf?) and these are slightly difficult once potty trained. otherwise, she would be wearing them until she went to college if i had my way. 💔 . as my sweet friend Kayla said earlier “it makes it so final that you’re done now”. and it is. i waited for 40 years to become a mommy, and in 3.5 years my baby is no longer a baby but a *big girl* not in every way THANK GAWD, but enough ways to cue a few tears at this process. the acceptance. the acknowledgement. the sadness. the pride. the emotional roller coaster all of motherhood is. 🤍 so as i look at this stack of my favorite things that i was ever able to buy for my own baby, is now part of our past. part of our last chapter. the one where Traci has a baby that came before Traci has a toddler. #thoughtsonmotherhood #motherhoodmusings #sloaneleah #mygirl #sloaniebaloney #babytotoddlertoofuckingfast #lifeasamommy #sloanesmommy #imaginingmydreamsArchives
