For 35 years I waited. and waited, and it never happened.
I had hoped and prayed for as long as I could remember.
I remember being told in the hallways of Cedars Sinai Hospital I now had a beautiful, healthy new baby brother and I said, ” thank you, but I wanted a sister” and turned around and started to walk away.
I have always wanted a younger sister. I wasn’t even 4 years old when I said that when my brother was born. (I’m sorry Ryan! I do love you and wouldn’t have changed a thing!!!)
I always hoped my mom and dad would have a 3rd child and I’d get my baby sister. No such luck.
Ryan and I were raised closely, but being 4 years apart and opposite genders, we never were in the same place at the same time and had nothing in common.
I often felt like I was an only child, and I know he did too. But I digress.
After 35 years of waiting, and waiting and waiting, my dream came true……….when my brother got married and I GOT MY SISTER!!!
……..and she couldn’t BE more amazing!
My brother chose the most perfect woman for him……and in turn, I got the sister I’d always wanted and am so lucky to have, and she’s perfect for me too!
You ask why am I telling you this NOW???
BECAUSE TODAY, MAY 22nd IS HER BIRTHDAY and I wanted to dedicate a post to her and tell her, no different from my speech at their wedding………I waited my whole life for a sister and I couldn’t be more fortunate to have the one I have!
I truly hit the jackpot! (Good going Ryan and thank you!).
Britt, I hope that you have a wonderful day, another awesome year…….and that only good things come your way filled with love, health and happiness!!
I look forward to many more memories made and laughing fits had.
I look forward to more rolling of my eyeballs with you at the corniness. (Which the dictionary says is NOT a word, but I say its OUR word!)
I look forward to growing up and getting old and having a sister to do it with! Ryan’s great and all, but it’s FUN having a sister to gossip with and talk about boys with! I mean that was the best last month!!
So here’s to Twenty-Eight being an amazing year for you…………and thank you for coming into my life, welcoming me into yours and for becoming my sister. ❤
I love you Britt! Happy 28th Birthday!!!
“You’re more than a sister-in-law to me that word doesn’t describe the woman I see.You make the “in-law” part drop away. For you, sister is a better word to say. A sister-in-law any woman can be, but your value to our family means far much more to me.” ~ Anonymous
Traci, what a beautiful tribute to your new “sister”. I know you know how lucky you are to have such a wonderful relationship. I wish you & Britt a long life of love & friendship! Tell Britt, “Happy Birthday”, from me. I love you & I’m so proud of you, Traci!! x/o ❤
