On December 28, 2010 at approximately 6:15pm PST I decided to make myself something for dinner, big mistake!!! Should picked up food or ordered in. First time in my life I was trying to be fiscally responsible. I cut through a baguette and then promptly cut through my left pinky finger. This is by far the worst injury I have ever had. And I don’t currently have health insurance. So instead of going to the ER like I should have, my friend that’s a nurse has been taking care of me. She’s done an AMAZING job. It’s been butterflied and taped and splinted to avoid bending my finger. It’s been glued and stretched and finally grew a scab as of last Friday. Never thought I’d be so excited to see a freaking scab!
You don’t realize how hard it is to be down an entire hand for almost two months! Yes, I have use of the other 4 fingers, but, showering, hand washing, hair washing, bathing children and dish washing ALL AFFECTED and difficult with a left hand out of commission. Luckily I’m right handed, but, wen watching children you really need use of both hands and arms!
It looks like it should only be another week or two until this scab falls off thus rendering me healed. And I cannot wait! I’ll be able to finally get the stench of Desitan to leave me alone! I’ll be able to wash dishes and not feel they are unsanitary when I’m done. I’ll be able to wash my hands AND apply lotion like I used to. They are all minor things but after being unable to participate you realize how much you take for granted.
