Welcome to my very own, brand new blog!! I’ve been talking about doing this for a while and then life just sorta got in the way. I’ve never done this before so please excuse any of my amateur mistakes! I AM an amateur and will be using this space as a work in progress as I figure out my focus and my voice.
I guess I should start off by bringing you up to speed.
My name is Traci, I’m 35 and single, living in Los Angeles, which is where I was born incidentally. I had an illustrious 11-year career in advertising, first radio then Internet. Around the time I hit 30, Hurricane Katrina had just hit in New Orleans and I was sitting in my living room, day in and day out trying to sell million dollar ad contracts for CNET. One day I snapped, and realized that this wasn’t the life I’d wanted. I loved the paycheck, I loved the free cell phone and laptop, I loved the expense account and fancy lunches, dinners and travel. But that was it. I felt like i needed to do something that was gonna make me happy. One thing led to another, and I’ve been nannying for 3 1/2 years now. Having a degree to be a preschool director and having such a huge background in child development has become really useful!!
I’ve been working primarily for the same family for the past 3.5 years, having started watching Calen when he was only 4-months old, he will be 4 this summer!!! And Leah, who’s going to be a year old on March 18th. I am so fortunate to have Calen & Leah and their family in my life. They treat me like I’m part of the family! Their mom has easily become one of my closest friends, which is what happens when you’re in someones home helping to raise their babies. We all work very well as a team and these children are the perfect example of how it DOES take a village. They absolutely know their mommy from me. They love me in a special way which in no way diminishes their relationship with their parents. Because I’ve been around forever, Calen doesn’t know any differently from having his Traci in his life. In fact, a cute little story from last summer, Calen announced to his mom and dad, “did you know Julian has TWO mommies??”. They did know and responded accordingly, curious where this was leading. “well, I have a Mommy, a Daddy AND a Traci”, he exclaimed. Such sweet, youthful ignorance.
Having Calen and Leah in my life has made me a better person. They have taught me so much I wouldn’t even know where to begin. They keep me feeling loved and fulfilled even on those days I’d rather be alone with the covers up over my head. You see, I have always wanted to be a mommy. Always. From the time I could talk if you asked me what I wanted to be my response was “I wanna be a Mommy”. Alas, that’s not in the cards for me yet, but I’m honored to have an opportunity to fulfill that need in me with Calen & Leah.
The other love of my life is Riley. Often referred to as Riley Roo or even Ms Roo. She’s a 5 1/2 year old Bichon Frise who I couldn’t live without. She’s my constant companion, my other half. She’s 9lbs of feisty and fun. And shhhh, she doesn’t know she’s a dog. 😉
